Hawaii is a member of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). Motor carriers operating qualified vehicles in Hawaii must report all miles traveled and fuel purchased in the state on their quarterly IFTA returns.
Fuel purchased in Hawaii generates a tax credit at the rate of $0.1600/gallon for diesel. If you travel more miles in Hawaii than the fuel you purchased would cover, you'll owe additional tax. If you purchased more fuel than you used, you'll receive a credit.
