IFTA in California
California is a member of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). Motor carriers operating qualified vehicles in California must report all miles traveled and fuel purchased in the state on their quarterly IFTA returns.
Fuel purchased in California generates a tax credit at the rate of $0.6800/gallon for diesel. If you travel more miles in California than the fuel you purchased would cover, you'll owe additional tax. If you purchased more fuel than you used, you'll receive a credit.
